A compass feature is really useful for muslims. Wherever they go, they need to know where the Qibla (direction of Mecca) is for their prayers. Most muslims bring along compasses when they travel.

Peace out.

@moogoo Apple definitely has a unique way of prioritizing its feature list. You will never see a tangible keyboard on an iphone. As for the backgrounding of applications they started to address that, but leaves something to be desired.

@stefan I don't know that I would classify what you linked as "useful", if apple bundled in a compass to be just another way to control applications, then they should have marketed it differently. To me, its just a compass.

yeah, I can honestly say I've nevery used the G1 in street view compass mode like in that article. Even when I've been lost. They really are a silly lot of features, and all of the tech geeks are going to find a way to shoot our eyes out.

Actually, there is a good reason for including a compass in a mobile phone. Think of applications like the one in this article: http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/09/23/androids-first-killer-feature-compass-mode/

And yet, the iPhone still does not have the "slide out keyboard with real buttons" feature, or the "run more than one app at a time" feature. But it has a compass, w00t.
